By:

Celtic Folk and Fairy Tales is a captivating collection of traditional stories from Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and Brittany. Joseph Jacobs has compiled a wide range of tales, from the well-known legends of King Arthur and Finn MacCool to lesser-known fables and myths.

The stories in this book are rich in Celtic lore and are a joy to read. They are full of magic, adventure, and memorable characters, making them a delight for readers of all ages. Jacobs' retellings are faithful to the originals, capturing the unique voice and flavor of each tale.

One of the highlights of this collection is the inclusion of lesser-known stories that are not commonly found in other anthologies. These tales offer a fresh perspective on Celtic folklore and provide a deeper insight into the culture and traditions of the Celtic people.

Overall, Celtic Folk and Fairy Tales is a must-read for anyone interested in mythology, folklore, or Celtic culture. It is a timeless collection that will enchant and captivate readers for generations to come.

Book Description:

Celtic Fairy Tales is a collection of 25 folk and fairy stories collected from Ireland and Scotland. At what I imagine is the Frontispiece, or the dedication page, is the phrase: “SAY THIS Three times, with your eyes shut ‘Mothuighim boladh an Éireannaigh bhinn bhreugaigh faoi m’fhóidín dúthaigh.’And you will see/What you will see_” A loose translation of this Gaelic phrase is “I sense the smell of a sweet, enchanting Irishman around my dear homeplace.”
