In dezen bundel heb ik verzen vereenigd, die niet wat het schrijven maar wat het beleven betreft, behooren tot vier achtereenvolgende perioden.

Van het boek "Jeugd" vindt men hier het eerste deel, voor zoo ver dat geschreven was en voor publicatie geschikt werd gerekend, nagenoeg compleet.

De gedichten uit het boek "Natuur en Leven" zijn bestemd te worden opgenomen in een eventueelen herdruk van dat bundeltje; die uit "Dood" zijn ontleend aan een klein geheel, dat wellicht later zal worden gepubliceerd, terwijl de hier gegeven en andere verzen uit "Van Later Dagen" bestemd zijn om den ganschen cyclus af te sluiten.
