The Cosmic Computer
By Henry Beam Piper

Thirty minutes to Litchfield.

Conn Maxwell, at the armor-glass front of the observation deck, watched the landscape rush out of the horizon and vanish beneath the ship, ten thousand feet down. He thought he knew how an hourglass must feel with the sand slowly draining out. It had been six months to Litchfield when the Mizar lifted out of La Plata Spaceport and he watched Terra dwindle away. It had been two months to Litchfield when he boarded the City of Asgard at the port of the same name on Odin. It had been two hours to Litchfield when the Countess Dorothy rose from the airship dock at Storisende. He had had all that time, and now it was gone, and he was still unprepared for what he must face at home. Thirty minutes to Litchfield. The words echoed in his mind as though he had spoken them aloud, and then, re

This is an old public domain story by H. Beam Piper and is read by Mark Nelson. It's a classic scifi adventure. I would go as far to say that its a "pulp" story well told. It starts small with family members interacting and quickly expands into a world wide adventure. Ray guns, space ships, nuclear explosions, could you want more? Well actually you could. You could want a fantastic reader and flawless audio production... your got it! Reading = 3/3 Production = 3/3 Story = 3/3 Overall = 9/9 read the rest of my reviews at http://freeaudioreview.blogspot.com

This is classic Science Fiction. A hightech background sets the stage for a highpaced adventure. Very enjoyable, and perfect for an audio book. Perfect reading, no less!

The reader had a good clear voice and done a wonderful job doing each of the characters. The story was well−written and had a satisfying ending.

Subject: Very good story
Conn is a young man trained to work on computers so he can find the ultimate computer in the universe. Along the way, he finds someone who knows about the computer, but will say nothing about it. Why? What is the big secret? Good story, kept me on my toes. Mark Nelson is a GREAT reader, I hope he is still reading for libravox.
